QuestionHi Larry, I have a 4 year old Wisteria growing against a wall. It did very well last year and reached about 12 feet high with plenty of greenery but no flowers yet. I have read several articles regarding how to prune Wisteria but they tend to conflict. Please can you instruct me on how to cut back and prune it for (hopefully) good growth and flowers in 2004?
Regards, John Weir. (UK)
AnswerHi John
wisteria is pruned twice a year. once after flowering in which you remove any new side growth, and then in early spring to remove any dead wood. do not wory if you have a bad season with little flowers, it could be weather related. fertilize once a year in early spring and pay attention to how many days of sunshine it gets, the sun is very important to this species performance. Good Luck Larry ;-)
