QuestionMay have ask you this question before, but I am still searching for a way to rejuvenate a weeping cherry tree. The tree bloomed nicely this spring but leaves are not being produced. I took a small branch to our Conservation agent, and they thought the tree will eventually start growing again. When asked to see if there was any green left in the stems, I scratched a few smaller branches and there seems to be some green. However, the tree looks like it is dying, and I am convinced it will be gone before the summer is gone. Is there any thing I might try to see if I can get it going again? Its about four years old and about 3 inches in diameter. Help help help. Thanks Richard
AnswerIf you still have green on the branches , I would fertilize the tree with 10-10-10 fertilizer at the rate of 1 lb. per inch of trunk diameter scattered around the tree and watered in good If you apply the fertilizer just before a rain event you will not need to water. Make sure you do not use a product called Weed and Feed on the grass near the tree. This product contains a herbicide that will kill tree roots. It is a good product for lawns where there are no trees but can damage any tree roots.
