QuestionGood morning:
We have a weeping mulberry tree and I have seen some people prune these trees right back to the "ball" at the base of the branches. Our tree has a lot of dead branches near the base - I've never done more than cut the ends of the branches. How should I properly prune this tree and when?
Thank you
AnswerAt this time I would just cut the branches off that are hitting the ground and leave the others alone. Just trim the low hanging branches. These trees are to be pruned during the dormant season just before the spring. Then you can prune the dead branches and the other branches. The ones growing up will weep on their own as they grow.
Pruning back to a drastic cut is not good for the tree and not recommended. You are doing it correctly!
