QuestionI have a new Globe Willow that was planted in February. We live in Fort Worth, TX; have a normal "residential" lawn; and use a lawn service.
The tree was doing great when first planted, but now seems to be stressed with the top leaves in the canopy curling and turning brown. I am watering twice a week - we dug out a nice big hole when we planted, and slightly amended the local soil with some organic mulch and top soil, and mixed it in with the local soil to backfill. I used "red mulch" bought from a local "Living Earth" soil and mulch company.
Finally, we use a lawn service, and it just occurred to me that they probably spread "Weed-N-Feed" into the tree well area when they treated the rest of the lawn.
(1) Are there toxins in the dye used to turn the mulch red?
(2) What can I do to help the tree recover from the Weed-N-Feed?
I removed all the red mulch, and replaced it with natural shredded hardwood. Then I am "flushing" the tree well in hopes to clear out the W-N-F.
Is there anything else I can do to help? Other types of treatments, etc?
Thanks!
AnswerI would water with 1 inch of water--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. This will give the tree a deep watering.
I would water three times per week for 3-4 weeks this should help flush out the herbicide.
