QuestionLet me revise to you my question that you couldn't have the answer to earlier:
In January, I purchased 2 red dogwood trees, I planted them immediately. It is almost October now and so far nothing much has happened to my dogwood trees but the leaves are currently curling up and the tip of the leaves are dried up. Do you think it needs more watering? none of the leaves fall when they are suppose to fall. I don't think this is normal for my red dogwood trees to behave like that. So I would like your best opinion/resolution to my problem, because I have no clue what to do next. If you cannot answer, may you recommend me another person that can help me?
Thank you for your help.
AnswerFirst check to see if the branches are still alive. Start near the end of an upper outer branch and scrape a small bit of bark off--if the color under the bark is green the branch is still alive. IF the color is brown then the branch is dead at that point on the branch. If brown not green continue down the branch scraping at intervals until you find green or reach the main stem. If brown try other branches.
If it is green the tree is reacting to a lack of water and I would water with 1 inch of water--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. Do this every third day for a week then once a week. Also if you have not done so mulch around the tree with not more then 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. Pine straw is good. This will help hold moisture around the roots.
IF the branches are dead I am sorry it does sound like the tree died.
