QuestionI have 3 hawthorn trees, over 20 years old with a stem circumference of about 10 inches. About 15 feet tall. They are located next to my house. Would you know what sort of roots hawthorns have, are they very big, likely to cause any damage to the wall.
Thanks.
AnswerThe root system is more fibrous but will not cause any problems with the foundation. The spread of the tree maybe 25-35 feet at maturity so the branches maybe a problem rubbing on the house but this can be taken care of by pruning. There are many varieties of hawthorn trees and some are dwarf and are not as large as the "regular" ones. But the roots will not be a problem.
