QuestionI planted a Sunburst Locust tree last November. The tree was a "bare root" provide for free from my local township. I planted & watered the tree as instructed. Anyhow the tree has not leafed as of yet. I performed a scratch test of the branches down to the trunk, which all are showing green under the bark.
I have a few questions.
1. Is the tree in a dormant stage possible from being stressed after being planted?
2. Do you think the tree will leaf at all this summer since it is still showing signs of life?
3. Is there anything that I can do to "wake up" the tree?
Thanks,
Gary
AnswerSounds like a case of planting stress. There is not really anything that can be done to "wake up " trees. I would water every third day if it does not rain and mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. This will help hold moisture around the roots. About all that can be done is way and see.
