QuestionI planted three young maple trees that are only 6 inches tall and already have their leaves when the weather was in the 60's. Now we are going to get a bit of colder weather (high 30-50's), will my trees be damaged from the colder weather? I live in north part of IL in zone 5.
thank you
AnswerIt is a good possibility that the trees could be damaged especially if there is a frost. At night I would cover them with a plastic bag and remove the bag if the weather is better in the daytime. This will hold heat in the bag and keep the trees from freezing or being contacted by the frost. Make sure you uncover them it the weather is sunny and warmer to keep from over heating the trees.
