QuestionHi, i am landscaping around my inground pool and want a very small accent tree and dont mind if its deciduous but prefer evergreen so in my search i found a redbud clump that is 10'tall 6'wide, 3 stem,VERY NICE LOOKING TREE!!----BUT,i was told that the mature height would be around 15',but after a planted the tree 6' from my pool WALL and 10' from my house found that the tree gets 30'x30', what do you suggest? will the root system grow into the pool walls? is it possible to keep it trimmed back to 15'? it was just planted days ago so i can remove if i need to but have no space for it anywhere else! any suggestions?
AnswerYou should be ok--the minimum distance recommended by a pool is 6 feet and also 6 feet from a foundation. . This tree does not have large roots surface roots and is not listed as a problem for foundations etc. It does at maturity have a spread of 20-25 feet meaning the branches will reach 10-15 feet from the trunk. This could be a problem with leaves and etc. dropping into the pool. Yes you can prune the tree I would wait until after the tree has flowered then IF needed you can prune the branches. I would leave it for now and IF you see there is too much trouble with falling leaves etc, then you can make the decision to remove or not.
