black mullberry root, how to kill

Question
I have a black mullberry that has been here for five tears and has become quite the nuisance, what can I use to kill the root of the mullberry only? I have a clematis vine very near (within inches) of the root system and do not want to harm the clematis vine. Any suggestions?

Answer
Cut the tree down and within the hour of cutting treat the strump with a herbicide called Roundup. Take a paint brush and paint the top of the fresh stump with the Roundup straight from the container. Do not drip the Roundup on any other green vegetation--Roundup will kill any green plant but is safe to use around other plants since the chemical will not move through the soil. The herbicide will move into the fresh stump into the root system killing the Mulberry system.
