QuestionA week ago we planted 5 aptos blue redwoods on 3 acres in Acampo, CA. Four of them have dried, dead looking tips. One looks like it is yellowing. We did everything the nursery told us to do. Dug a wide hole, added a bag of mulch, did not cover top roots, and watered well after planting. The soil is very wet and cold right now. Could that be the ploblem? Can we do anything to help them?
AnswerI think the excess water in the soil maybe the problem. These trees like moist but well drained soil. Standing water will kill the roots and give the symptoms you described. Without looking at the area I could not give recommendations on how to lower the amount of water. Might look at drainage and IF you can change the way the area drains.
