Is there any way that I can save a young hickory tree that was girdled?  Thanks for your help!

It will depend on how young the tree is and if the girdle is all the way around the trunk down to the wood. IF it was girdled all the way around the tree trunk then the top will die. But the roots should resprout a new trunk. This will depend on the age of the tree and how long it has been planted. If the tree has had several years of growth you will get a faster growing sprout from the stump. I would wait and see what happens this spring and see if the top leafs out or not. IF it does the tree will survive. IF not cut the trunk just below the girdle and the stump and roots should sprout a new tree. I hope thin is what you are asking.
