QuestionIf I use rootx on exposed roots left from removing a locust tree will that stop
the regeneration of more trees from that root system. Also will the rootx
sterilize the soil so the grass won't grow back? 2,6Dichlobenil

AnswerDo not use rootx--this is used to kill roots in septic lines and will kill all roots including the grass. It is not used outside of the pipes.
Since it sounds like you have already cut the tree you may have to wait and see if the root do sprout next spring and treat the sprouts then. IF the stump is fresh a couple of days old you can treat the stump with a herbicide called Roundup this is absorbed by the stump and moved to the roots killing them. The fresher the stump the better. The Roundup can also be used on the sprouts when they appear next spring. In this case wipe the foliage if the sprouts with the diluted Roundup, Roundup will kill any green plant so so do not get it on any plant not wanted killed. I would use a sponge and wet the sponge (not dripping wet) and wipe the foliage with the damp sponge. I would wear plastic gloves to keep the smell of the Roundup off your hands. Roundup will not harm you but the smell will linger on your hands. Throw the sponge away after it is used.
