QuestionI have about 15 ficus tress very tall around my property. They were planted before i moved in and have now gotten into my plumbing pipes. I want to have them removed, do I need to remove the roots as well as the tree or will cutting the tree kill the roots?
AnswerCut the trees and paint the fresh stump with a herbicide called Roundup. Use a cheap brush and use the Roundup straight from the container--do not need to dilute the Roundup. The stump will absorb the Roundup and transport it to the roots and kill the root system so it will not sprout. Roundup will kill any green plant so be careful that you do not get it on any plant not wanting killed. No need to dig up the roots they will decay on their own over time.
