Question
bay fungus
I have an apparent fungal disease on my bay laurel. White sticky fungus spots about 1cm in diameter with a central brown node . They are spreading and grouping along the entire bark of the tree. Could you identify and suggest treatment please
AnswerLooks like cottony scale --an insect. These suck the plant juices from the tree and secrete a substance high in sugar content called honeydew-a sticky liquid. I would treat the tree with an insecticide called Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insect control. This is applied to the soil around the tree and the roots will transport it to the twigs and leaves and when the insect sucks the plant juices they are killed. It will take a couple of weeks to show control. Here is a web link to this product --check with your local garden type store for this. http://www.bayeradvanced.com/tree-shrub-care/products/12-month-tree-shrub-insect...
