Crepe mrytle - too young to bloom?

Question
In mid-June '10 I bought a crepe myrtle (natchez variety) which is about 3 ft. tall and from seeing it, I could tell it had not produced any history of blooms but decided to purchase it.  I'm assuming since the tree is still young that its not ready to bloom. I've placed it in a very sunny location (8 hrs. of sun) so that should help with the process of bearing blooms so when should I start to expect to see blooms appearing?

Answer
I would think early next summer it will bloom. Since it was planted late it will need time to set a good root system to support the flowers with water and nutrients. Some plants don't bloom the first year after they're moved,  some of them may be just a little delayed that first year.
Since it was just planted I would mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. This will help hold moisture around the roots. I would water with 1 inch of water--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. Do this every third day for a month then once a week.
