Question
Tree wound
I have a crimson maple that has what i would call a wound, the tree itself is vary old,but still to me is very healthy, the wound is about 6 to 7 inches in length and is seeping a brown puss like substance, what is it?And what can i do?
AnswerLooks like the wound is infested with a borer insect. I would spray an insecticide called Merit or Onyx on the wound this will the borer under the bark. Borers attack trees that are under stress so I would also fertilize the tree with 10-10-10 fertilizer at the rate of 1 lb per inch of trunk diameter scattered around the tree and watered in good.
