QuestionI don't see that you specifically answer questions on logging, but maybe you can help send me in the right direction. We are currently having about 10 acres logged in west Tennessee, mostly white oak, to turn into farmland. The loggers are leaving the tree tops. We were wondering if there is an outlet to sell the tree tops? The loggers told us they only deal in logs and pulp wood and didn't have any suggestions. Thanks!
AnswerTops and limbs are sometimes chipped up and used as either mulch or used by paper mills. But 10 acres would not be attractive for someone to move machinery to chip the limbs up. You can advertise as free firewood or maybe contact a firewood dealer and they would take the tops. Or have the logger push the tops into piles and burn them. Also check with the Tenn State Forestry agency and ask one of their Foresters if they know of a dealer who would take the wood in the tops.
