QuestionHello Mr Hyland,
My question is about clarifying when is a tree considered established? We planted an Edith Bogue Magnolia tree in the Fall of 2009. How often do we water? We live in Bucks County PA, north of Phila.PA.
Thank you, JoAnne
AnswerTrees are usually established by the second year and really do not need water added unless it is dry climate. Then water only once a week with 1 inch of water-place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. IF you mulch around the tree with not moire than 3 inches deep of organic mulch this will help hold moisture around the root system.
