I live along a Florida lake and have several Cypress trees on the "beach area". How do I keep weeds and plant growth out of this area? Also how many knees can I cut off before it may harm the trees. These are very mature trees with quite a bit of Spanish moss but very difficult clean out between the knees.

If you spray a herbicide called Roundup on the green weeds and this will kill the weeds and other plant growth. You can get the Roundup on the knees themselves as long as it is not on a cut surface. Knees can be cut as many times as you want without damaging the parent tree. Check with your local garden type store for the Roundup.
