white birch trees and septic lines

Question
I read a response you gave to someone about planting white birch trees.  You made a comment about not planting them over a septic line?  Could you explain this?

Answer
birch trees  likes water and will grow roots toward the water and the roots will clog the tank and lines. It is not the depth of the root system but the aggressiveness and water needs of the tree roots. Septic lines are not sealed like water pipes and will have some leakage and the roots will find the water and enter the pipes.
I would say a safe distance would be at least 25 feet from the septic tank or lines.
