Question2 different tree trimmers came out to top my 2 of my black locust trees but instead of topping them they cut off all of the limbs and left a 5-6ft stump?i guess you could call it that will
my trees come back or did they kill my black locust trees?
AnswerNo it is more than likely not dead BUT when it buds out you will have a tall bush. Topping of trees is very very seldom good for the tree and should not be done. But it was--I would let the tree grow back then start to select which sprout you want it be come the new tree top and next fall start to prune back some of the lateral branches to try to encourage one of the top to become the new top. Or you can just let it grow and the tree will do this on its own but more than likely it will have several forked branches as the top. In the future do not use tree trimmers but use a certified Arborist for your tree needs. Here is a web link to more information on topping trees and a web link to finding a certified Arborist. Sorry about your tree.
