yellowing magnolia grandiflora

Question
i have a 13 ft magnolia grandiflora with pure green leaves(under and top). I planted it from pot to ground about 3 weeks ago. It is turning yellow and dropping some leaves. I am wondering if it is transplant shock or chlorosis. I water once a week and use western states vitamin b-1. I also used vigoro tree and evergreen food. when i planted it i used 1/2 master nursery bumper crop all natural organic soil builder and 1/2 original soil. I live in victorville ca. i think it's zone 9 or 10 in the usda zones. It gets cold in winter sometimes snowing and hot in summer above 100 degrees at times. its windy also during all seasons. please help. thank you.

Answer
I think you are over caring for the tree. Do not fertilize any more for a year. Most folks do not recommend fertilizing for the first year. Too much fertilizer will burn the root system.  Water only once a week with 1 inch of water--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. Too much water is as bad as too little. If you have not done so mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the stem. This will hold moisture around the tree and reduce the need to water as much.
