QuestionI planted my cherry tree last May, watered it daily, but it didn't get enough water for about 10 days. The top and upper branches died. There are only 3 lower branches left alive which flowered and now are greening up. My question is what do I do? Replace the tree? Cut off the top and most of the branches? Bring it back to the nursery that I purchased it at? Is there a way to make it look good again? Help!!!!
Thanks!!
AnswerI would try taking it back to the nursery and see if they will replace it. BUT I would guess that it got too much water--too much water can be as bad as too little. With the new tree dig the hole twice the size of the root ball and as deep and fill with good top soil or potting soil. Mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. This will help help the moisture around the roots. Water every three days with 1 inch of water--place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. Do this from the first 3 weeks then water once a week if it does not rain.
