QuestionI have a Drake Elm appx 8" dia, 8 yr old has block of holes about 1/4" dia appx 3' off ground @ main trunk & upper forks.
Is this fatal or is it treatable if so how can I treat it or do I need proff help???
AnswerWith out seeing the damage I can only guess. So IF the holes are in a line on the trunk I would say this is a bird called a Sap sucker (a wood pecker). These birds make the holes and the sap leaks into the hole and insects come to feed on the sap and the bird returns to eat the insect. You can spray the area with an insecticide to kill the insect and the birds will go away. Use any house hold insecticide such as bug B gone malathion etc. If I am off base attach a picture and I will try again.
