QuestionI have several types of oaks in the Kosse Texas area. Trees are quickly dieing in groups of three and four, from healthy looking to dead in a matter of weeks. Peeling the bark away I see some pest has bored holes into the wood. I can not see any borers. What could my problem be and what is the solution
AnswerIt would be difficult to tell exactly what the problem is without looking at the trees. In Texas there has been a problem with oak wilt disease and this maybe the problem. I would suggest that you call the Texas Forest Service (state agency) and ask one of their Foresters to come take a look or you could contact the Pest Management division of this agency and ask one of the specialist to help. They can come take a look and determine the problem and advice you of the treatment.
Here is a web link to their Pest management staff I would try Joe Pase You can tell him I sent you he is a friend.
