QuestionJim - On Aug. 10, you suggested I use Merit for the weeping cherry problem (peeling bark and sap ooze). I have had to send off for this insecticide. My question is: Do I apply this in injection holes around the base of the tree (8 inch diameter trunk)? Having read the label on line, there is no mention of spraying. Am I correct in thinking that I mix about 8 teaspoons in water (How much water?), make holes a few inches deep (6-12 inches from base) and just pour in the solution?
Thank you

AnswerI would not apply as an injection since the wound is already there and the tree will absorb the insecticide. Use 5-8 teaspoons per 5 gal of water. On smaller trees you can use it as a soil drench and mix it to pour around the tree and let the roots pick the insecticide up and transport it to the trunk. I would spray the wound area and then use the soil drench. Sometimes labels are confusing. I hope this helps.
