QuestionWe have just put in a swimming pool and it is close to an oak tree that is about 3 to 4 feet in diameter. The pool is about 10 feet from the sides of the pool. when we dug the hole there were no signs of any roots. However, will the tree's root system damage the pool walls or will they go that far? It is a fiberglass pool if that matters. We are hoping to save tree and pool.
Thanks,
Judy
AnswerThe roots of trees will spread about 1 1/2 times the width of the branches. Roots will seek water but you should not have a problem with a fiberglass pool since the roots can not penetrate the pool liner. Any root that may grow that direction will deflected by the pool and turn away. r I do not think you will have a problem with the roots at all.
