QuestionI have a 4yr. old redbud that doubled in size the first 2 years. Last year the leaves seemed small this year it looked thin and sick. I dug a trench at drip line and fertilized it with tree food 2 months ago, 3 or 4 weeks ago the leaves started turning yellow and dropping, they are all that way now. I can't find any insect or fungus etc. The small branch I snapped off today is still green. HELP.
CAN IT BE SAVED? tHANK YOU. jANE
AnswerSounds like there was too much fertilizer and it burned the roots. I would water with 1 inch of water-place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. This will help flush the fertilizer and dilute it. The tree should recover but may have some die back from the exposure.
