QuestionI have easy access to White Oak from a veneer logger. I stack my wood on 53" pallets. Two rows per pallet. Palletts are on plastic. 4"-6" gap between rows. Both row are covered on top by 6' wide roofing tin. My question is how long will this wood last for burning in a wood furnace? I have about a 5-6 year supply at this time. Should I quit. I am 59 years young, I may not be able to do this forever. Your oponion is apperiated very much.

Moe
AnswerIt all depends on where you are located. Here in the Southern US firewood will start to decay after the third year. In the Western US it will last many years. The humidity is the key to slowing down the decay fungi. Even wood that is decaying or looks rotten can be burned in a furnace--it will burn up faster than "hard wood" but it will burn.
