QuestionI recently purchased a home in Albuquerque, NM. There is a mature cottonwood tree. The leaves are turning yellow and falling off. I would expect this in the Fall, but am concerned this is happening mid-July. What should I do? Thanks!
AnswerSounds like a lack of water--I would water the tree with 1 inch of water -place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it atop. Do this every third day until it rains. The lack of water causes the tree to react as if it were Fall and shuts down the growth and this willl cause the leaves to abort.
