Questionsadly for me i damaged my new (3 yrs old) evergreen tree. it was dusk, i wanted to finish the job, the metal protection dealy had fallen away etc...potential for disaster there i wss!
the grass was so tall, i started wacking away-full speed then noticed i was zoning in on the side of one of my evergreen trees i had babied for 3 year!
i live in ft collins, colorado. we have had a monsoon season unlike any other here lately,it's rained for like 10 days in a row!
any ideas would be greatly appreciated! these trees came from CSU and were about 6 inches tall when planted. they are now between 2-3 feet and just getting bushy and beautiful.
thank you so much
AnswerAbout all that can be done is wait and see. IF the bark was not cut off all the way round the trunk then the tree should be ok. The layer of cell just under the bark is the living layer and if these are cut by girdling the foliage can not get water from the roots. Conifers can take more girdling than can hardwood trees. I would expect they will be ok, Especially since you have gotten rain. You may get some dieback on the side that was cut. I would suggest if they do make it that you mulch around the trees with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch (pine straw is good). this will keep the operator away from the trees.
