QuestionI have had a Raywood for 3 years... Every year in the spring as it blooms, it produces growth around the base of the trunk. Is there something I can do to prevent this? I've heard that it means the roots are having trouble... Any ideas???
Thank you,
Kris
AnswerIf you are talking about the tree grows sprouts form the lower trunk or from the roots--these do sap some of the growth from the main tree and they should be cut. The ones on the trunk can be cut as they appear and the ones around the tree can be either cut or mowed down when you cut the grass. Not a sign of the roots having trouble but of them growing. There is not a chemical that can be used to prevent this. As the tree gets older they will stop.
