Question I just planted two cherry trees in my yard a couple of weeks ago. They are starting to get leeves and flowers on them. The weather has turned cold, and there is going to be frost on the ground the next two days. I was wondering if this will hurt my young trees?
AnswerFrost will be the limiting factor hopefully there will be enough wind to keep the ice off the new leaves and flowers. If the trees are small enough I would consider covering them to keep the frost from damaging the new leaves and/or flowers. If you can not do this it will not kill the tree but can damage the leaves and flowers but the leaves will come back. It is not real critical for the leaves but the flowers for the year more than likely will be killed.
