Droppings from trees in Springtime

Question

Trees droppings
What is is name of the tassel looking things that drop from trees this time of year (we have mostly oak trees)?  See attached picture.  They are about 2 - 3 inches long, brownish-yellowish, very soft and lots of them that clog up the drains.  Just wondering what the purpose is and if they have a name.  Thanks.

Answer
Those are the flowers from an oak tree called catkins. This is where the acorns come from. The catkins are about the first things that bud out as the oak tree leafs out. They are short lived and sometimes do make a mess.

Here is a web link that gives more information on oak catkins.
