Persimmon tree reaching into pool

Question
My neighbor has a persimmon tree planted about 5-6 feet from my pool.  Would the tree roots reach through my pool?  I have plaster damage it looks like it could be from their tree.

Answer
A tree planted that close to a pool is asking for problems. The roots will spread about 1 1/2 times the spread of the limbs (mature persimmon should have a spread of 25 feet. Tree root seek water and if there is any crack in the pool they will enter the crack. Root barriers could be installed along the poll between the pool and the tree that would divert the roots away from the pool. Another serious problem will be the leaves and fruit that will fall into the pool. The limbs will extend out about 15 feet so they will over hang the pool.

I would ask him to move the tree and use the fact that the chlorine in the water will damage the tree. Also you can prune the limbs on your side of the line and the tree will look like half a tree. Moving the tree is the best answer. If it was my pool if the tree was not moved it would get sick and die.
