QuestionMy neighbor sugested i take a couple of his weeping willow tree branches that fell to the ground last week and put them in water inside the house and they will give roots in a week.
It has been a week still no roots, is this because it is winter time Jan. and everything is dormant?
Will it take longer, or it will not happen at all?
I am in NY.
AnswerBranches and twigs that fall off trees are usually dead and they break off. These can not be rooted. The timing is also bad. You can cut the ends (12 inches or so) off in the spring just before leaf out and dip them in a rooting hormone and place in water of damp sand and they should root.
