Question
Before/Spring
Hello, we bought a house that had a nicely established lace leaf maple...but the dogs have nearly destroyed it by chewing the branches after it had gone into the winter cycle. The foliage had already been gone, but we are not sure what to do to ensure that it comes back to us in the spring....could you please help? Attached are the before and after pictures.
AnswerI would prune any broken branches back to good wood. Prune just the part of the branch to smooth the chewed area. Then wait until the spring --it should leaf out ok. BUT keep the dogs away. There are products that you can get from a pet store that will stop dogs from injuring the tree.
