QuestionWe have property in Florida that has silver oak suckers that come up every year and looks like a jungle when we get down there in the winter. How can we permanently remove these pesty suckers? Is there a chemical that we can use to treat these rascals? It is an intense job to clean these up every year.
AnswerThere are several herbicide that can be used to kill this tree but all need to be applied to the foliage. The most common is Roundup but it will also kill any green plant it is sprayed on. One way to just treat the trees you want killed is to wipe the roundup on the foliage of the trees to be kill instead of spraying. If you do not mind killing the vegetation under the oak sprouts spray the roundup on. The lower vegetation will grow back.
