QuestionI PLANTED A JAPANESE MAPLE TREE IN THE WRONG SEASON, MATTER OF FACT I MOVED IT FROM ANOTHER LOCATION TO MY NEW HOME,BUT I HAVE WATERED IT EVERYDAY SINE I PLANTED IT, SHOULD IT HAVE LEAVES ON IT NOW? I KEPT THE ROOT WET AND ALSO PLANT FOOD. IT IS STILL BARE THERE WAS NOT SAP ON IT WHEN I MOVED IT. WILL IT COME BACK OR WHAT CAN I DO TO ENSURE IT WILL. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL TREES AND IT WAS GIVEN TO ME. THANK YOU
AnswerLay off the water and the plant food. They need about 1 inch of water per week and no plant food for at least the first couple of years.
You can check and see if the tree is still alive by starting near the end of a branch and scrape a small bit of bark off the twig and if the color under the bark is green then the branch is still alive at this point on the branch. IF the color is not green (brown) then the branch is dead at this point on the branch. If brown continue down the branch scraping at intervals until you find green. When you find green stop. Green means the tree sis still alive and you will need to wait unto spring to see if it will leaf out.
