QuestionIn July it was necessary for me to have a Blue Spruce moved due to it being planted on the property line where a fence was to be erected. The tree was transplanted and I was told to water it twice a day be filling the trough which had been made around it with the dirt. I did this all summer and the tree seemed to flourish. Suddenly, in late September I noticed the needles becoming brown. I was told to continue watering it. I have done so, but am concerned that the tree may be dying. Someone suggested using Preen, but I have done nothing but water it so far. Any information you can give me will help. Thanks.
AnswerI think it was over watered--trees need about 1 inch of water per week. This can be done by putting a pan under the tree and turning the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop. Over watering can be as bad for a tree as too little watering. I would lay off the water and water only if it does not rain for 10-14 days or so.
