Dog Urinating on my new trees

Question
I have a small pug that keeps going to my new trees that I just had planted this past weekend to go to the bathroom on the trees. Can this kill my new trees?  I got a Cherry tree, a Sugartyme Crabapple tree, and a Red Maple (October Glory) all installed this past weekend and they already look different; just in a few days. Could this be from the dog urine?  The pug is small; I can't imagine he would damage the trees so quickly! Also, the delivery guy said to water each tree with 2 gallons of water each per day.  Is this right? Thank you; I hope my trees last forever, have been looking forward to them for a long time.

Answer
The urine is high in salt content and will damage or kill the trees. More than likely the wilting you are seeing right after the newly planted trees is just shock form the transplanting. Yes water is needed at least the first couple of week daily and then I would cut back to every three days for a month and then once a week. If you have not done so I would mulch around the trees with not more than 3 inches deep of organic mulch not piled up on the trunk. This will help hold moisture around the roots and keep lawn equipment away from the trees. The dog will need to be trained  not to use the trees.
