Question
Tree
The water drainage pipe from my home needs to be replaced since it is clogged. The pipe runs about 8-12" underground and about 3 feet from a large maple tree (the trunk is about a foot thick). Is there any way to bore a hole for a new pipe without killing the tree?
AnswerThis tree does not seem to have much growing space as is so you want to damage as little of the roots as possible. One way would be pull the old pipe out and use the hole to push a new pipe under the roots. Bore the new hole where the old pipe was. Boring will be the least damage to the roots. Where if you dug a trench it would cut the root and damage the root system.
