planting willow tree

Question
We recenlty purchased a golden weeping willow tree and are trying to decide where to plant it.  I had picked out a good spot about 20 feet to the east of our house.  My only concern is it might be too close to the house.  Also, the septic lines run behind the house.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Answer
Do not plant a willow any where near a septic line. This tree loves water and will seek out the lines. You will have problem with the lines clogging with roots. The 20 feet from the house is ok but the septic lines can be a major problem.
The roots may cause problems with sewer pipes. Willows grow naturally near water and hence they seek water and if a sewer line is damp or leaking they will invade the pipe and clog it up. Keep at least 30 feet from these lines.
