Question
Pine Tree in question
I just sent the same question to Tom Alonzo and realized you were the one I had communicated with earlier. I am attaching an image of the pine tree you think is a VA Pine. I apologize for the delay in getting the image - I am a teacher - and the first of the year is crazy. So, here is the image and if you can tell me what it is so I can purchase one or find out how to propagate it, I would be so grateful. I currently have a loblolly that is at least 80 feet tall and scarey - I want this tree! I truly appreciate your assistance. Martha
AnswerYes it does look from a distance like Virginia pine. This tree will not sprout form a cutting but you could gather cones and let them dry and get the seed and plant them BUT this will rake a long time to get a tree and the seed may not germinate but about 50%. I would suggest you buy a seedling and plant it. To get the shape this tree has you will have to grow it in the open away form other trees like this one so the tree will spread out or it will grow more of a cone shape. Check with your local tree nursery and they should be able to tell you where you can buy this tree--or the State Forestry agency will know.
