QuestionWe are thinking of planing a columnar aspen in a rock wall bed. It is a good size bed. Just wondering how invasive the root system is. Do they spread far from the tree base or do they grow downwards.
Thanks, wilma
AnswerThese trees have about a branch width of 10 feet. The roots will grow about 1 1/2 times the width of the branches. The roots are not very invasive. If the area is more than 10 feet wide there will be little problem. Even smaller than this I would not think the tree roots will cause the wall any problems.
