QuestionJim:
A neighbor keeps telling me that if I stack cordwood between two trees, that will kill the trees. Is this true? If so, why? Thanks for your help. Larry
AnswerThe stacking of cordwood itself will not kill the trees it is between but depending on the species of the wood and the trees it could cause insects to be attracted to the wood and as they emerge they could attack the standing trees. Exp. If the wood is pine and the trees are pine bark beetles can infest the wood and when they complete their life cycle they will emerge and attack the pine trees. Hardwood species are not quite as bad since most of the beetles infesting the wood are only attracted to dead wood. But if the oak tree was killed by say oak wilt, the disease could be spread to the oak trees between the wood. The wood will not normally killed the trees but it is not the best way to stack the wood.
