eastern redbud

Question
I have planted some  eastern redbuds in my yard this past spring and they are growing very well. But in the past month or so I have noticed that something has been eating the edges of the leaves. I have looked online to see if there is any info on it and I am not having any luck. I have not noticed it on any of the other plants, except the hostas, that I have in the area. I have miniature roses and some hostas planted in the same area. Someone told me that the damage, that is very minimal on my hostas, is different from what is on the trees. Can you give me some info?    Thanks.

Answer
Insects feed on the leaves of redbud. The redbud leaffolder, Fascista cercerisella, feeds on leaves which the larvae web together. The grape leaffolder, Desmia funeralis, an important pest of grape, also feeds on redbud. The Japanese weevil, Callirhopalus bifasciatus, and Norape ovina both consume redbud leaves.
IF it is one of the caterpillar type insect you should be able to see the caterpillars present. Japanese beetles come and go but usually can also be seen. In any case I would spray the foliage with Orthene. This insecticide is sprayed on the foliage and will kill these type insects.
