Hello,
I am trying to learn if a Juniper tree can be topped with success. I would say that these trees are over 40 feet high and we would need to take them down to about 20 feet high in order to regain our view.
AnswerIf these trees are on your property I would just cut them down. Topping a tree this size (cutting more than half the tree and it looks like about as much as 2/3 of the crown) will at the very least make a real ugly tree/bush if not kill the tree. Trees of this size do not respond well to this amount of topping. You can train a young tree by annually pruning the top but this drastic of a measure of a tree this large could kill the tree or cause insects to attack and kill it. I say cut the ones that will open up the view if that is more important then the trees.
