cicadas

Question
Will cicadas lay eggs in fruit on trees such as cherries or apples? If so, if you eat the fruit that has an egg in it, will it kill you?

Answer
No cicadas lay eggs in the woody part of twigs and limbs of the trees not the fruit. There are other insects that lay eggs just as the fruit is starting to swell or later. These hatch out long before the fruit is ripe and feed on the inside of the fruit. You would more than likely never eat an egg if so it would not harm you. The acid in the stomach would kill the egg or any small caterpillar eaten. This is not a concern--eat all the fruit you want.
